This is something I’ve been wanting to put together for sometime in the hopes of avoiding any future problems with commenters. We’re not here to make everyone happy and we’ll put forth no effort whatsoever in making people feel comfortable on this site. As the Great Dusty Baker always says, it is what it is. Send any future complaints about what is said on this site and how it offends one to someone who cares. I can assure you that person is not me.
This blog is the result of 3 people who began talking about the Cubs on an abandoned Cubs blog in the offseason between 2003 and 2004. In January 2005 we decided it was time to start our own blog. We’ve had blogs on blogger, blogdrive and in September 2005 we moved to our own domain, and the archives for this site goes back to that time.
We didn’t have any ambitions or goals about what we were going to do with this blog when we started it. We were just 3 people who didn’t know each other and really liked talking about the Cubs, among other things. The name of the blog has changed a couple of times since we started out.
The number of people visiting the site has consistently grown and those who stick around and partake in disucssion in the comments know that baseball and the Cubs aren’t all we enjoy talking about. These discussions may be offensive to some and we understand that. We also understand you don’t have to read it and we’re not going to change because one or several people are offended by what they may read.
As mentioned, this blog has gotten larger and larger, but the reason it was started is still an important aspect of it. Rusty, Ryno and I didn’t like that other Cubs blogs controlled what you could or could not say. Say the word “fuck” and 3 people tell you to watch yourself. Fuck them. I’m not posting online to be a responsible adult. This is a break from reality. Nothing more, nothing less.
Another Cubs Blog is not for everyone. Those easily offended should just move on even if you haven’t been offended yet. You soon will be. We are not here to host a hospitable site for all Cubs fans. We’re not saying we don’t want you around. The more people here talking about the Cubs, the better.
We’re not sure what kind of person comments here, but we are pretty sure what kind of person isn’t going to fit in around here. People who already have their mind made up serve no purpose whatsoever in the discussions that go on here unless you enjoy being ridiculed. If so, then stick around and we’ll have some fun at your expense. If you’re the kind of person who feels every time someone disagrees with you that they are attacking you personally, save us all some time and go somewhere else. If you’re the kind of person who is incapable of admitting when he or she is right or wrong, there are other sites out there more appropriate for you.
On the other hand, if you want to discuss baseball and the other stuff that comes up around here, have fun while doing it and think there is something left to learn about this game, then stick around.
We not only welcome your criticism, we encourage it. We expect you to be skeptical and to challenge us. We do also expect our commenters to understand the difference between evidence and opinion, but this should not discourage you from voicing your opinions. We realize that just because statistical jargon is familiar to us, it may not be familiar to others, so feel free to ask us just what the fuck we are talking about. We promise not to call you a philistine. At least not the first time.
Thanks to Ryno for editing this, thanks to Mercurial Outfielder and Berselius for their help in updating this and many thanks to both Ryno and Rusty who each made an effort no less than mine in making this a fun place to hang out.
